Wisteria by Valerie Parente
The wisteria drapes
like lavender rain
and I am amazed
by the floral display.
Took several years to grow
the perennials above the road
so pure when it overflows
yet toxic in a small dose.
They say to beware
of this invasive plant
overtaking the land
but I am not scared.
I have become one with the infection
that plagued my intentions
so pretty, so prevalent
as I embrace the evidence.
Long live the twining
of nature’s signage
like calligraphy winding
in a language so binding.
The wisteria dominates
any glimpse of sun rays
but I could never hate
sitting under the shade.

Material Girl by Valerie Parente

I like to surround myself with things I find beautiful
because if I don’t create my own sanctuary
then who will?

The Beauty of Darkness (I) by Valerie Parente
I find
the most unwavering comfort
in my dark moods
because they remind me
that I am human
just like you.

Duality by Valerie Parente
The most beautiful thing a person can do is be honest about their ugliest parts.

Blessed by Valerie Parente
Strength. Compassion. Intelligence. Beauty. Courage. Faith. Love.
The very things that I prayed for in a companion were in me all along.

Value by Valerie Parente
I know my value and I see it every day
I need to stop punishing myself
when it isn’t seen by someone else.
